What is a Karat?

Karat is the measurement of gold to other alloys (other metals mixed with gold typically copper, nickel, silver, or palladium)

What is considered gold?

In the United States anything 10 Karat and above is recognized as gold. Pure gold is 24 Karat. All karats can be separate into pure gold by refining the metals. Meaning you can take 10 Karat and separate it from the other metals and have pure gold.

Why not use 24 Karat Gold?

Typically, 24 Karat is not used for jewelry because it is soft it can be easily scratched.  Adding other metals to pure gold makes it harder and damage resistant.

Lynx 12 Karat Gold is a specially formulated 12 Karat gold. 50% pure gold and alloy mixture to ensure its purity and composition of the gold.

How do you know so much about gold?

Besides being an educated surgeon, I have an undergraduate degree in chemistry and I'm a certified jeweler. I also have a particular interest in the stock market which allows me to understand the importance of the commodity.
